Hailing from Perth, Australia, Flynn Talbot runs a specialized lighting studio in London, where he produces lighting installations for galleries and innovative lighting fixtures for mass production.
Initially focused on furniture and product design, Flynn began to search for ways to create more ‘emotive’ work. He thus entered the world of lighting design, and has yet to look back.
“Human experience and spatial transformation inform my work, ” he explains. “I want to offer a chance for the viewer to feel absorbed in each project. My approach fuses memorable and bold aesthetics with very fine detailing, while maintaining the essential human element. ”
Flynn Talbot Studio was founded in 2010. That same year, Flynn was named ‘Young Lighting Designer of the Year’ in Frankfurt.
“My starting point is always the same for each project. I begin with the consideration of the ‘light effect’ and construct each project around it. Every decision and detail is made with the quality of light and user connection in mind. This method creates a timeless quality and a strong point of difference in my work, ” Flynn explains.
Flynn has designed fixtures for lighting brands such Fabbian and Resident. His interactive light installation Horizon was exhibited in Sydney, London, and Frankfurt. His first solo exhibition, titled X&Y, was exhibited at the Helmrinderknecht Gallery in Berlin. Other works have been exhibited widely across Europe and Australia, along with parts of the USA and Asia.
