Edmondo Testaguzza
“Design is a serial production of objects for daily use. The object should work, yet, at the same time, have an aura of the magical and mysterious.”
Edmondo Testaguzza’s designs are stories told in ceramic, metal, and glass. Consider the Ginger collection, a warm and fluid dance between glass and light, creating motion out of stillness. Or the Ceraunavolta, which manifests the interplay between sky and sea, by turns both tranquil and turbulent. Or the Norma M, a dreamlike, almost ethereal, expression of personal memory and emotion. In each of these and his many other designs, Testaguzza makes use of the functional to express the sublime.
Born in Germany, Testaguzza has operated his eponymous studio in Italy since 1997. From there, he draws on his extensive experience in both furniture and lighting design to collaborate with manufacturers such as Karman, creating works at once practical and transcendent. Although, as he says, ordinary things are the primary source of inspiration for Edmondo Testaguzza, what defines his work is how these ordinary things are made extraordinary through his inherent sense of poetry.
